Petr Skala (*1947) is one of the most distinctive Czech experimental filmmakers. However, as he stood outside of the mainstream and, perhaps more importantly, behind the Iron Curtain, he failed to achieve significant international recognition as a young filmmaker. A solitary figure in both art and life, his interests include the Kabbalah and Jewish mysticism, mathematical algorithms, the conscious as well as the subconscious and, last but not least, the pursuit of freedom.
