Monika Žáková

Kubín – Žáková – Coubine

18 November 2018 - 27 January 2019

An exhibition of pieces by Monika Žáková, created in reaction to three exceptional pre-war works by Otakar Kubín, opened as a part of the Pro arte Autumn Salon.

Monika Žáková is a representative of a distinctive new generation of painters dedicated to exploring pictorial abstraction. The artist’s analytical thinking is reflected in her compositions, in which she focuses on the deconstruction of visual and perceptual information. Her art is motivated by her interest in surface, depth and the unstable nature of spatial experience. Her paintings, collages, drawings and metal objects reference modernism as well as art of the 1960s.

Monika Žáková studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague from 2006 to 2012. She also received a scholarship for a study placement at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts. In 2014 she won third place at the annual Art Critique Prize for Young Painters. She has recently exhibited at the Prague House in Brussels (2018), Industra Art Gallery in Brno (2018), Lucie Drdova Gallery in Prague (2017) and 17/18 Gallery in Ottawa (2017).
