A selection of Czech post-war art from the Pro arte portfolio featuring pieces from the 1945 to 1989 period, i.e. works created predominantly during periods of political repression. Where Altamira signifies the temple of art, the titular blackout stands for the – fortunately inevitably temporary – period of darkness dominating it throughout most of the designated period. Works of art were thus either created by those who managed to escape the darkness or by artists whose eyes were able to pierce through it. Highly valued pieces from this period comprise the most dynamically developing portion of the Pro Arte portfolio. Featured artists include Josef Šíma, Bohuslav Reynek, Toyen, Kamil Lhoták, Václav Boštík, Jiří Kolář, Jan Křížek, Mikuláš Medek, Jan Švankmajer and others.
